VIDEOLAB MONTHLY PROGRAM // JULY 2006

postcard design by Yuriza Kenobhi ( 347/eat, endjoy division )

For this July 2006, we will present two video makers who work as a graphic designer. They are Dodi Mustafa ( Domus ), a bachelor from Printmaking studio of Art and Design Faculty in ITB, graduated in 2004 and Muhammad Yudi Suhairi (Gorky), a bachelor of Visual Communication of Design ( DKV ) in faculty of Arts and Design UNIKOM, graduated in 2005. As a graphic designer, Domus used to make many experimental video works during his study in ITB. Some of his video works showed in many places of an exhibition or a video screening in Indonesia and internationally. Started in 2003 when he participated in a video workshop from Video centre of Tokyo in Ruang Rupa, Jakarta then he  worked with videoworks for an exhibition and screenings, like in Re-inventing Bandung at Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, Beyond Panopticon Art and Global Media Project in Electronic Mall in 2004, video screenings in common room which brought his videos internationally. And now, he work with video passively, but more with graphic design works. Different with Gorky, as a graphic designer, he participated in some graphic works workshops and exhibitions, like with Julian Opie in national gallery, Jakarta in 2005. He started to make a short film for his task during his study then he made some TV Ad and participated in short film festival at AACC (Asia Africa Cultural Centre), Bandung in 2004. And now, more videoworks or moving images he made, the last works are music video of Rachel Jacobs ('Productive Vampires'), a video profile for a private university in Bandung. The Speaker for the discussion session in Bedah Video dan Kopi Sore will be an Indonesian visual artist, R E Hartanto from Bandung Centre of New Media Arts who also work as a freelance graphic designer. Therefore, is graphic design usually connected with any kind of moving images works?

VIDEOLAB MONTHLY PROGRAM // JUNE 2006

For this June 2006, videolab co-operated with Reza Afisina ( Asung ) from ruang rupa to show the videoworks compilation of "Lupita's Collection"  curated by Rene Hayashi, Eder Castillo and Mike Rodriguez from Mexico. "The idea of showing these video selections was to created a strategy for looking different places or countries where Mexican visual artist don't usually had shown there. In a way there's also possibilities to gain many information and sharing within the development of video as work or as a media for showing visual art works in everywhere."

And also, linked by Prilla Tania, we will show at the same time a video collection from FemLink, a video compilation from 32 female artists around the world, initiated by Veronique Sapin from France and C M Judge from USA. " Our hope is that our video collage may, as it is broadcast and widely exhibited, contributes positively in a just way to our diverse world."

Through the two above video collections, we will talk and discuss about the medium of video as one expression media of art, the flexibility and fragility of this medium these days. The talks will be guided by Aminudin TH Siregar, a curator from Soemardja Galery, ITB and Rene Hayashi, one of the curator of Lupita's Collection.

Fyi, at the moment our partner KINOKI from jogya cannot realized our monthly program

that usually show every month at their space. We hope, soon Kinoki and Jogya will recovery from all of the earthquake mess. Our new partners at this month are space36x50x25 that belong to Soemardja Gallery, ITB and TUK in Jakarta through Paul Agusta and their film community.

VIDEOLAB MONTHLY PROGRAM // APRIL 2006

* postcard designer : Muhammad Akbar // vlab

April 2006 artists for videolab monthly program are two (2) female students from different universities. Andi Bini Fitriani (Bini), 23 years old, is a student of Interior Design in Fine Art and Design Faculty, ITB Bandung, West Java,  and Siska Rahadiyanti (Cyka), 20 years old, is a student in faculty of Recorded Media, ISI Jogyakarta, Central of Java. They are using video as a media for their expression as a creativity process. In their videoworks, they have their own uniqeness. We can see a short mysterius effect in Cyka's works with the using of found object's animation while in Bini's works, we can see an exploration of still photo or still video where the colours and sounds are so melancholic. They both active to involve in some video projects and exhibitions.
