VIDEOLAB MONTHLY PROGRAM // APRIL 2006

* postcard designer : Muhammad Akbar // vlab

April 2006 artists for videolab monthly program are two (2) female students from different universities. Andi Bini Fitriani (Bini), 23 years old, is a student of Interior Design in Fine Art and Design Faculty, ITB Bandung, West Java,  and Siska Rahadiyanti (Cyka), 20 years old, is a student in faculty of Recorded Media, ISI Jogyakarta, Central of Java. They are using video as a media for their expression as a creativity process. In their videoworks, they have their own uniqeness. We can see a short mysterius effect in Cyka's works with the using of found object's animation while in Bini's works, we can see an exploration of still photo or still video where the colours and sounds are so melancholic. They both active to involve in some video projects and exhibitions.

** White Capsule is our video library, a white custom-made cupboard that will be displayed and video added at the place where we have venue for our monthly program ' bedah video dan kopi sore'. INTERVIEW WITH KRISNAMURTI_Indonesian Version

  Krisna Murti

Lahir 1957. Ia menjadi inisiator festival media baru pertama di Indonesia  bavf~NAF (The Bandung, Video, Film and New Media Arts) di Bandung 2002.

1. Sejak kapan bapak memulai berkarya dengan video ?

SAYA MULAI EKSPERIMEN VIDEO TAHUN 1990 DAN PAMERAN TUNGGAL VIDEO INSTALASI PERTAMA TAHUN 1993 DI GALERI R66, BANDUNG. KARYANYA BERJUDUL “ 12 JAM DALAM KEHIDUPAN PENARI AGUNG RAI”. Ini karya video-instalasi-perfomance

2. Kenapa memilih medium video ?

3. Apakah medium video mempunyai  hal yang berbeda impact-nya di banding medium lain ( baca = lukisan, patung ) ?

TENTU, VIDEO ATAU UMUMNYA MEDIA BARU ADA PEMBEDA SIGNIFIKAN IALAH KEMAMPUAN ‘REALTIME’ YANG TERCIPTA KARENA PENEMUAN TEKNOLOGI INFORMASI/MEDIA. REALTIME MENYEBABKAN BATAS WAKTU, RUANG/TERITORI, PELAKU-PENONTON, DEFINISI SENIMAN, REALITAS, PRESENCE, MATERI, MEMORI,  DINISBIKAN. Penisbian itu terjadi justru ketika seniman itu sendiri sebelum berkarya.

Video instalasi Performance “12 Hours in the Life of Agung Rai, The Dancers” (1993),menguak sisi perilaku manusia di balik panggung pertunjukan.

8. Bagaimana menurut bapak tentang perkembangan video art di Indonesia, bandung khususnya ?

DI INDONESIA UMUMNYA MASIH BELUM MARAK. BARANGKALI KARENA FAKTOR ALAT DAN EKONOMI. TAPI LUCUNYA PENGGUNAAN KAMERA DIGITAL, TELEPON SELULER, INTERNET DAN GAMES UNTUK KEPERLUAN HIBURAN DAN PRAKTIS SETIAP TAHUN MENINGKAT. DI BANDUNG BANYAK SENIMAN MUDA BEKERJA DENGAN VIDEO, BANYAK INSTITUSI DAN KOMUNITASNYA BAHKAN FESTIVAL. TAPI SEPERTINYA KONTINUITASNYA BELUM TERJAGA. SENIMAN MUDA YANG MESTINYA MENJADI PENOPANG PERVIDEOAN SEPERTI TERJADI DI KOREA, JEPANG BAHKAN THAILAND, REALITASNYA MASIH MENGERJAKANNYA SEBAGAI PEKERJAAN SAMBILAN DI SAMPING SEBAGAI PERUPA. ADA INSTITUSI YANG KEREN KEREN TETAPI KURANG MENELURKAN PIKIRAN-PIKIRAN YANG MENCERAHKAN DI TENGAH MERIAHNYA PRAKTEK MEDIA BARU SEBAGAI GAYA HIDUP. SEMESTINYA INI KESEMPATAN BAGI MEREKA UNTUK MEMPUNYAI POSISI BUDAYA YANG MENENTUKAN DI TENGAH KONSUMERISME BUDAYA TI SAAT INI.

Rasanya masih seperti gaya hidup.
